Robert De Niro has been making big headlines recently for his public outbursts against President Trump, but he’s been less vocal about his old buddy Harvey Weinstein and the near $1 million his former company still owes the actor for “Silver Linings Playbook.”
According to documents obtained by The Blast, De Niro claims to be owed $940,706 for the 2012 flick, which earned him an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor.
The legendary actor made the filing in The Weinstein Company’s bankruptcy, and joins some other Hollywood heavyweights who want to make sure they don’t get left out in the cold as TWC’s assets are sold to Lantern Capital following the fallout from Harvey Weinstein’s rape scandal.
Other big names who are staking their claim include Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts, who claim to both be owed $168,611 each for their participation in “August: Osage
Julia Roberts and Meryl Streep have rushed to court out of their fear images of them will be published without their approval, despite them negotiating contracts giving them 100 percent control.
Recently, the actress filed docs in the ongoing bankruptcy for The Weinstein Company.
Roberts takes issue with The Weinstein Company’s sale to Lantern Entertainment due to all contracts she had with TWC being transferred to Lantern.
The actress explains before she signed onto star in August: Osage County she made sure to negotiate a provision that gave her 100% approval over photos used of her. She says TWC agreed to not give images of her to tabloids or to license out any photos.
Roberts says she made sure to have approval over rights pertaining to her name, voice and likeness in merchandising, commercial tie-ups and soundtracks. She says updated accounting provided to her shows she is owed $168,611 in connection with the movie.
She claims TWC has informed her that Lantern purchased the rights to her contract and they told her she is owed nothing going forward following the sale, which she takes issue with.
Meryl Streep filed her own docs over the same film, saying she is owed $168,611 for her role. She claims to have also worked out a provision for 100 percent approval of photos they use of her.
Other big names who filed docs objecting to their contracts and rights being transferred to Lantern include Robert De Niro, Brad Pitt and George Clooney.
De Niro says he is owed $940,706 for ‘Silver Linings Playbook’, Brad Pitt wants the $278,865 owed for ‘Killing Them Softly’, and Clooney says he is owed $250k for producing August: Osage County.
Interesting to note … Pitt doesn’t mention that he negotiated a photo approval clause in his deal nor did.
